Drug Interaction Disclaimer

Interactions are checked between assigned classes of generics rather than between brands.

MIMS Interactions can be used to check the documented or theoretical interactions between two nominated (selected) generic substances. When a brand is selected, each generic component (or its allocated class) is compared against each generic on an individual (paired) basis.

Please note that not all generic substances have drug interaction results. These generic substances either do not have clinically significant interactions or have not yet been evaluated for their potential interactions, e.g. newer chemical entities.

When more than two generic substances are being prescribed, MIMS Interactions can check all the interactions between paired combinations of generics, but cannot provide information about the cumulative effects or the effect of a specific resultant interaction on all other medicines. The number of possible permutations and combinations makes it impossible to generate full interaction data using current technology. Therefore, the prescribing doctor must assess the combined consequence of all the displayed interactions in each patient.

MIMS Interactions is not designed to identify interactions between generics of the same or similar pharmacological classes, such as coadministration of amlodipine and verapamil. Prescription of this nature would be deemed as duplicating therapy with additive pharmacological effects.

The absence of a drug interaction should in no way be interpreted to indicate that the drug or drug combination is safe or appropriate. It is the responsibility of the end user to evaluate all information in the clinical setting before making any final prescribing decision.

MIMS Interactions and the advice contained herein are updated monthly. This reflects the availability of new case reports and clinical studies published in acknowledged primary and secondary sources.

Although every effort has been made in compiling and checking the information in this database to ensure that it is accurate and up-to-date, the authors, editors, publishers and their agents shall not be responsible for any errors, omissions or inaccuracies in this database, whether arising from negligence or otherwise howsoever or for any consequences arising therefrom.

Drug Allergy Disclaimer

The Drug Allergy database associates chemically or therapeutically related generic substances or classes that have been known to cause hypersensitivity or immunologically-triggered reactions as documented from recognised published medical literature or internationally accepted drug references. While drugs or drug classes with similar characteristics are linked, allergic reactions due to the excipient molecules found in combination with these substances or from a drug delivery system are not covered herein.

There is currently no grading of the level of severity of hypersensitivity and of further risk or benefit to the patient following re-treatment with an allergen or a cross-sensitive agent. The absence of a drug allergy warning for a given drug or drug combination in no way should be interpreted to indicate that the drug or drug combination is safe, effective or appropriate to the patient. It is the responsibility of the end user to evaluate all information in the clinical setting before making any final prescribing decision.

Calculators Disclaimer

All calculations must be confirmed before use. The authors make no claims of the accuracy of the information contained herein; any computed value should not be relied on solely as a basis for clinical decision-making. Neither MIMS nor any other party involved in the preparation or publication of this site shall be liable for any special, consequential, or exemplary damages resulting in whole or part from any user's use of or reliance upon this material.

Disclaimer

MIMS New Zealand provides abridged prescribing information on the most commonly prescribed medicines in New Zealand. The data in MIMS NZ has been localised for use in New Zealand from the MIMS Australia data. Localisation has been undertaken by review of the medicines datasheets, product packaging (where appropriate) and the Pharmac and Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand medicines databases. Any omissions are due to the necessary information not being available to the publishers. Although every effort has been made in compiling and checking the data in this database to ensure that it is accurate, the authors, the publisher, and their servants or agents shall not be responsible for the continued currency of the information, or for any errors, omissions or inaccuracies in this publication whether arising from negligence or otherwise howsoever or for any consequences arising there from.

It is important to remember that the selection of therapy based on information contained in MIMS New Zealand should always be overlaid against the profile of the individual patient. Clinical decisions are the responsibility of the attending physician and, where any doubt exists regarding the appropriateness or not of any therapy, referral to a relevant specialist and/or the specific pharmaceutical manufacturer is recommended. There will inevitably be clinical situations that will not be fully covered by the approved information. In these circumstances it is strongly recommended that further advice be sought before prescribing.

Third Party Information

MIMS NZ also distributes information supplied by third parties. This information is identified with the name of the source and has been chosen for publication because we believe it to be reliable. To the extent permitted by law, MIMS (NZ) Ltd, their employees and agents accept no liability (even if negligent) for any injury, loss or damage caused by reliance on any part of this information.

The Australian categorisation system and database for prescribing medicines in pregnancy have been developed by medical and scientific experts based on available evidence of risks associated with taking particular medicines while pregnant. This information is presented for the use of health professionals prescribing medicines to pregnant women, rather than for the general public to use. It is general in nature and is not presented as medical advice to health professionals or the public. It is not intended to be used as a substitute for a health professional's advice.

MIMS NZ may also contain links to Internet sites. MIMS (NZ) Ltd does not have knowledge of the information contained in such other sites.
